While I usually recommend acai supplements, I often get questions from people who ask “What does the acai berry taste like?”
It’s actually a difficult question to ask because it doesn’t really taste like anything you’ve likely tried before.
First of all, it’s not nearly as sweet as most berries. It can actually be a little tart (or a lot tart in the case of some acai pulps and purees)
You’ll also likely notice a dark chocolate like aftertaste (more an undertone than a – BAM! – in your face kind of flavor).

The best way to find out what acai tastes like – go to Brazil and get a fresh acai bowl. Second best way – try one of the pure, unrefined acai pulps – there aren’t a lot of them since most people prefer acai blended or mixed with something sweeter, but there are a few.
